We are looking for a journalist based in London who can help us expand our multimedia coverage of Europe and the Middle East. This person should have experience reporting deep and ambitious stories, preferably using data, images or other non-traditional reporting mediums.

Over the past few years, we have rebuilt Beirut port explosionvisualized the spread of Covid-19revealed the hidden and historical consequences of the pandemic and showed the decisions and errors which allowed epidemics around the world. We visualized places of detention in Greece, air pollution in India, the migration crisis in Syria and in change the Nile in Egypt.

We want to do more of these kinds of stories. We are reinforcing the ambition of our data, graphic and multimedia coverage and increasing our already strong international visual reporting. New reporting approaches can be combined with on-the-ground correspondence to hold governments to account and help readers better understand the world.

As a visual editor, you:

  • Regularly report in-depth on key topics to find datasets, maps, photos, and other information that can be the source of media stories.
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams, including graphics, photo and video teams in New York and around the world, to create and shape projects in all formats, including text.
  • Work with publishers and correspondents across Europe and the Middle East to design ambitious projects.
  • Collaborate with editors and correspondents to produce successful visual formats so that they become a more regular part of the report.

What we are looking for:

  • Discover stories that combine writing with data, images or graphics.
  • Ability to write clearly, work to tight deadlines, and refine the relationship between images and copy.
  • Strength to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • A record of finding creative ways to relate and execute stories.
