Tuesday job fair in Scranton for manufacturing jobs

Manufacturing companies in our region are looking for workers.

SCRANTON, Pa. — If you are looking for a job in the manufacturing industry, companies in our area are looking to hire many workers quickly.

About a dozen of those companies will be at a job fair in downtown Scranton on Tuesday, including Canpack, an Olyphant-based beverage container maker, and Hendrick Manufacturing, a family-owned metal maker in Carbondale.

“Everything from front to back, customer service, drafting, we have multiple positions on the shop floor,” said Jonathan Watt of Hendrick Manufacturing. “We have a few maintenance positions open, machine operators, welders, CNC machinists that we are always looking for. You name it, we could probably use it.”

“I think right now it’s a war for talent, which is pushing companies to do things that they haven’t traditionally done in the past. It’s a wage war. We’re all looking for the same groups of people,” Carrie Krott said. from Canpack.

Canpack is looking to hire over 100 people to meet its desired headcount of 530. Canpack opened the facility at Olyphant about a year ago.

“[Hiring] has certainly been challenging, especially for a company like Canpack, which is brand new to the area, which doesn’t have an employee base that we can draw from,” Krott said. “So not only has it been hard to find people who are looking for work right now, but it’s also been hard to find people who know us and want to learn a whole new skill in the world. of manufacturing.”

The manufacturing job fair runs until 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Pennsylvania CareerLink office on Franklin Avenue in downtown Scranton.
