Sage cleanup in Lake Worth began during the pandemic

Alicia Colon is CEO of Sage Cleaning, a minority female-owned family business serving Palm Beach County.

WEST PALM BEACH — Alicia Colon is among millions of Americans who lost their jobs in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic as employers closed workplaces or reduced staff.

Now she owns a cleaning business that specializes in vacation rentals.

Colon, 32, of Lake Worth Beach, worked in the automotive industry in marketing for a decade before being laid off in late February 2020. Events she reportedly planned for Ford dealerships in South Florida were cancelled.

Luckily for Colon, she had already thought about starting a cleaning business after reading a Facebook post from a woman who had quit a corporate job and opened a cleaning business.

The West Palm Beach company now employs 10 people and has 115 customers

This inspired Colon to found West Palm Beach-based Sage Cleaning. Colon now has 10 employees and 115 clients, including 50 vacation rental properties that his team manages.
