BLOOMINGDALE — Enrollment begins later this month for fall 2022 adult education classes at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School.
Prospective students can register Monday through August 31 and September 1, 6, 7, and 8 by contacting the school at (740) 264-5545 Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., but registration will continue until ‘on the first night. class with payment due at that time. Anyone 18 and older can enroll in the school located at 1509 County Highway 22A in Bloomingdale’s, which offers courses in computer science, business and industry, and special interests.
Classes begin September 13 and last from one to nine weeks. Some courses are free while others may include additional fees and costs for supplies, textbooks, and other materials. A certificate of completion will be given upon completion to students who have enrolled in certain programs and completed at least 60% of the course.
Coordinator Rich Wilinski said about 1,200 brochures have been sent out throughout the community and there are a wide variety of programs to pique student interest.
“Classes will start around mid-September,” Wilinsky said. “Our most popular programs include dance, yoga and decorative painting and have been well attended. We have a variety of programs and hope people will take advantage of them.
Computing courses offered this term include Basic Computing, a five-week session scheduled for Tuesdays beginning October 4 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at a cost of $40; iPhone and iPad Basics, a one-week class scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, October 19 and 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. for $20; and Android Smartphone and Tablet, a one-week session on Thursday, October 27 from 6-9 p.m. for $10. Participants must bring their devices with them to iPhone, iPad and Android classes.
Among the commercial and industrial programs featured are Small Engine Repair, a six-week session on Thursdays starting September 22 from 6-9 p.m. for $30, and Basic Electricity, an eight-week course on Tuesdays starting September 27 from from 6 p.m. at 9 p.m. for $70.
Special interest lessons include guitar with an eight-week session on Thursdays starting Sept. 22 from 6-9 p.m. for $35; Decorative Painting for Beginners, an eight-week course on Tuesdays starting September 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. for $35 plus supplies; Decorative Painting, an eight-week course on Thursdays beginning September 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. for $35 plus supplies; Yoga, a nine-week course on Thursdays starting Sept. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for $30; Handmade Greeting Cards, a six-week program on Tuesdays beginning September 27 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. with supplies costing $42; Dance, a free five-week course on Thursdays starting September 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Sign Language, an eight-week session on Wednesdays starting September 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. for $35; Quilting for Beginners, an eight-week course on Tuesdays starting September 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. for $35; Quilting, an eight-week program on Wednesdays starting Sept. 14 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for $35; Conversational Italian, an eight-week course on Wednesdays starting September 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. for $35; and Knitting for Beginners, an eight-week program on Thursdays starting Sept. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. for $35.
A minimum of seven students must be registered before a course can take place and officials will only notify them if the course is cancelled. JCJVS reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment and a full refund will be issued. If a withdrawal is made before the second class, a refund will be issued less a $10 processing fee. Please allow two to four weeks for the refund to be processed.
