Do you use NewsBreak as another source of income | Stephen L Dalton

Although it no longer pays a standard fee for each article you publish, NewsBreak is a valuable source of funds as a side business. I stopped for a while, but I’m back.

Make money with Newsbreak.PowerPoint design created by the author.

Here is my standard format and how I write in it.

Newsbreak format – Your headline must be in headline case. I mainly use the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) (no trailing punctuation)

Do not use clickbait titles; they will not be approved. Lists are fine, but don’t title them as if they were a list or use a format that says #1, Best, or similar wording.

They can still approve of the title, but if they have a problem with it, click edit and delete any words you think are superlatives or clickbaitishsuch as the best, the first, the leader, the exceptional, the perfect, the formidable, etc.

Here is what they recommend:

All titles must follow the guidelines below to ensure proper distribution:
be free of clickbait words and formats (this includes exaggerated words like “best” or “must see” and listings for non-local topics).

does not include misleading statements such as “That’s the only thing you need to know…”
be factually correct and directly related to the content and free from any other sensationalistic or misleading wording.

be free of spelling and grammatical errors.

Subtitle – 155-200 characters with your keyword.

Write the story.

Click the Image icon in the toolbar to add an image. I use four images and two YouTube videos where possible – more on that below.

NOTE: This post contains affiliate links. When you click on a link and purchase the product, I make a small commission, which does not change your price.

If you use affiliate links in your article, you must add disclaimer text at the beginning or before the first link. I place it at the beginning and at the end.

If you use an Amazon link, you must add the blurb: “As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.” This is mandatory for all Amazon Affiliates, not a NewsBreak requirement.

NOT overdoing it with affiliate links. Two or three is fine, but more than that will usually net you a mandatory warning or modification, which you don’t want. Too many strikes will get you suspended or banned.

why i left NewsBreak

I left Newsbreak for a long time, but now I’m back. I “cut off my nose to spite my face”. I got angry that they change the RPM at the beginning of every month.

Why do we have to reinstate this month by month? It still bothers me, but it’s their system. I’ll just accept it.

I started again in October and after reposting just 12 articles, I made $15.97. Yeah, it’s not going to make me rich, but added to my other sources of income, it helps pay the rent and get groceries.

For November, I have set myself the goal of posting every day. Who knows, one or more might go viral and make me rich. Hahaha.

Use these referral links if you want to get started and help us both on our NewsBreak journey:

If you want to create a side hustle by writing about local news, sign up using my referral link, and we can both do more. Don’t forget to use your link when you write to attract other readers and writers.

In 2020, I had six referrals that earned me $250 each. It’s true. I made $1500 just for adding the referral link to my stories and then occasionally answering their questions.

I add these two lines at the end of each article.

What’s popular on NewsBreak?

I usually pick the restaurants I’ve been to, but not always. If I pick a place I haven’t been, I get photos from their website, Facebook page, or both.

When a new restaurant or catering service opens, I text or call to request an interview. I usually ask them for four photos. One from their showcase and three of their favorite foods or drinks.

Check Facebook for local groups talking about restaurants or events for information and ideas on who to review. If a restaurant or caterer “likes” your post, they could be a great source for another article.

It was my most recent.

All photos/images must be given proper credit, eg whenever I do a restaurant review, I take photos from their Facebook page or website as appropriate. Sometimes I get them directly from the owner.

In all cases, I use a short blurb on the image, then the owner or author’s words on the second line, and the website or Facebook URL on the third line. Then click OK.

Use videos you didn’t create

I use YouTube videos as often as possible. This keeps them on the page longer and makes your article look more professional.

Here’s how.

Unlike Medium, which only uses the URL, all YouTube videos must use the embed button < > on the toolbar and on the YouTube video, choose: Share – Embed – copy, then paste into the document.

It should look like this:

What is the NewsBreak Creator program? – Earn money with videos and newspaper articles!

#newsbreakcreator

I usually copy and paste their #hashtags. You can also check trends and choose relevant #hashtags from this list.

Go to Google Trends to see your topic’s ranking.

Then head over to Top Hashtags to choose the most relevant ones.

For example, if you write about the Twitter layoffs, which was the top search topic on Google on November 4, you’ll find these hashtags:

#dismissals #covid #unemployment #coronavirus #jobs #dismissal #Company #job cuts #new #pandemic #dismissal #workfromhome #job search #unemployed #economy #fired #career #recession #labour law #labour lawyers #employment #hiring #memes #instagood #lockdown #finance #uber #job loss #furlough #humanresources

Many content creators submit videos to NewsBreak. I’m not a vlogger, but kudos to those who do. I think approval is a little more complicated, but I can’t say for sure because I haven’t done it.

Of course, some, like Instagram and Twitter, limit the number of characters or tags you can use, but not LinkedIn (In). I choose the five most relevant to Newsbreak. This should attract the most views. Since that’s how you get paid, that’s what you want. Am I right?

That’s all for the moment. If you have any questions, just ask me. Whether you use a referral link or not. I will try to help.

I use a standard finish

In addition to, In Conclusion, Final Thoughts, or however you wish to end, add the following in any order you wish. However, use your links.
