ATB Tech CEO Talks Company’s 15 Years of Success and Rebranding

ATB Tech is changing its name as it celebrates its 15th anniversary. In a conversation with the media, CEO Abiodun Atobatele discusses the company’s journey over the past 15 years, the reasons for its rebranding and further plans for the future.

Tell us how it all started.

We’ve come a long way since we started as a company in 2007 with a team of… just one person. Driven by one goal: to help businesses with innovative IT solutions and integrations. Thanks to our tireless and innovative team, we have remained consistent with this all these years. We are very lucky to have them.

I started ATB Techsoft Solutions in 2007. It was more of a hustler for me then, until November 2009 when I quit my full-time job and teamed up with a friend to run what you will now know as ATB Tech. .

Retrospective, 2016

It must have been tough. How did you do?

Well, we have partnered with renowned global technology companies such as Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle and Sophos. We came up with the tagline, “strictly best practices”. This influenced our approach and the quality of our service. More than anything else, this mentality has sustained us for 15 years.

It didn’t take long for the awards and recognition to start rolling in. In three years of activity, we have been named Microsoft Country Partner of the year in Nigeria. It was a big feat to achieve given that we were competing against companies that had been around for 15-20 years at the time. In 2013, we became Microsoft’s country partner for East, West and Central Africa. Although we were a small team at the time, we were already doing great things.

Sounds like a smooth sailboat.

Haha, not quite. A few years after our launch, we noticed that Microsoft was starting to create cloud solutions. It was a brilliant and innovative idea. However, this meant that we middlemen could gradually begin to lose our relevance. We knew this was an indication of the direction of the market and, as an innovative company, we saw the change that was coming and acted on it.

So we started to focus more on creating our own technology solutions based on the needs of our customers and the market as a whole. It was our turning point as a company, but it was also our most difficult time.

Don’t forget that we were a team of engineers who only knew how to deliver and integrate Microsoft, Oracle and Cisco solutions. Because we wanted to start building technology solutions, we needed to bring in software developers to help us with this new aspect of the business. As rookies that we were in this new space, it didn’t exactly go to plan.

Oh wow, what happened?

Our first mistake was hiring only one developer for the job. Honestly, we didn’t know any better. After six months, it was clear that we weren’t doing things right.

Then we decided to acquire a software development company. We thought there was no way to go wrong considering they are already in the software building business. Well, the marriage lasted about three years, but eventually we had to divorce because it wasn’t as fruitful as we had envisioned.

But we knew what we wanted and where we were going! So we continued. We kept experimenting with different approaches until we were finally successful in 2019. That’s when we could say we’ve smoothed out all aspects of software design, build and management. .

Nice. How many companies have you served?

We started with just one client (who is still with us today by the way). But over the years, we have served more than 2000 satisfied customers in different industries including Oil & Gas, Banking, Hospitality, Power, Government Agencies & Ministries, etc.

How would you describe ATB Tech as a full-fledged technology company?

ATB Tech has evolved from a company that only sells information technology products and services; to a company that builds and delivers self-built technology products and services.

So far, we’ve built some exciting products that are doing incredibly well in the marketplace. We have the MyXalary app which makes it easy for HR professionals and business owners in Africa. We created NotchCX, a CRM software that helps small and large businesses build and maintain better relationships with their customers. We also have Finratus, a financial software for managing savings and loans. We have more in the works.

This transition to a technology company is that we refuse to put ourselves in a box. For example, we could explore building a metering solution for the electricity sector; or creating safety software for firefighters in the future.

So why are you switching brands?

We have successfully combined software development with our existing IT services. It’s high time to rebrand to reflect our new direction as a technology company.

We thought our brand needed a makeover. Speaking of logos, did you see what the first Atb Techsoft logo looked like?

Funny no? I did it myself when we started. We’ve come a long way

From old to new

Interesting. What about your people, how did you grow?

We are a people-oriented company, and we have demonstrated this since our inception. We started as a team of two, but today we are a team of over 80 people. We aim to reach 100 employees before the end of the year.

The ATB Tech team

We recognize the value of our employees and do our best to create a conducive work environment for them. Our head office has a gym area, mini-golf course, colorful lounge and other amenities to keep staff relaxed, fit, creative and happy.

During the 2020 pandemic, we were among the first companies to implement remote working arrangements for our staff because we couldn’t risk exposing them to the virus. The lessons we have learned from the pandemic have helped us embrace hybrid working arrangements. Today, more than 70% of our staff physically return to the office twice a week. This is the first step in our plan to go 100% remote by the end of 2022.

Additionally, we are an inclusive and equal opportunity company that creates an environment where everyone can thrive, regardless of gender, religion, race or belief. We will continue in this direction looking to the future.

What can audiences expect from ATB Tech in the future?

You should expect a company that drives change in employment and income generation for the country. Going forward, we will focus on creating pan-African and pan-global products and services. In other words, we plan to create solutions that can benefit people and businesses across Africa and beyond.

Fantastic. One last word ?

We are proud of our accomplishments and impact over the past 15 years, and excited about what the future holds. 15 years later, there is still infinity!
