The Department of Environmental Studies, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, New York University invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor.

We are currently looking for candidates in the following areas:

Earth and environmental sciences:
These positions are open to researchers whose research specializes in all relevant dimensions of earth and environmental sciences. We welcome applicants from a wide range of disciplines (e.g. Earth systems science, ecology, conservation biology and other relevant fields). Nominations will begin on September 1, 2023, pending administrative and budgetary approval. Successful candidates will be interdisciplinary scholars with a strong research and publishing background, who are committed to training both undergraduate and graduate students in environmental studies through the planned doctoral program and/or the existing MA in Animal Studies, both hosted by the department. .

Environmental governance and justice:
This position is open to academics specializing in environmental ethics, global environmental governance and/or environmental justice. We welcome applicants from a wide range of social sciences, physical sciences, politics and humanities (e.g. philosophy, environmental studies, urban studies, ecology, political science, sociology, economics, public policy, geography) . The successful candidate will be an interdisciplinary scholar with a strong research and publication record, who is committed to training both undergraduate environmental studies and graduate students in current and planned programs hosted by the department. The appointment will begin on September 1, 2023, pending administrative and budgetary approval.

Urban ecology
This position is open to innovative and interdisciplinary researchers whose research is in Urban ecology, conceived in the broad sense. The position will be housed entirely within the Department of Environmental Studies, but is part of a wider group of recruitment efforts in Transforming urban ecologies which covers the departments of environmental studies and biology in this year’s research and may extend to other departments. One of the main goals of the cluster is to create a network for scholars working in these fields to collaborate across NYU. Successful applicants will be interdisciplinary scholars with an excellent research and publication record who are committed to training undergraduate students majoring in Environmental Studies and eventual graduate students of the ongoing PhD program in Environmental Studies. of development. We welcome applicants from a wide range of social sciences, physical sciences and policy backgrounds (e.g. environmental studies, earth sciences, urban studies, ecology, political science, sociology, economics, public policy, geography ). Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. by August 31, 2023, have an integrative research program that demonstrates the potential to be a leader in the field of environmental studies and have proven ability to be an excellent teacher.
